Gallstones

My SIL had gallstones removed 2 years ago and just a few months ago was told she has pancreatic cancer. Its too far gone for an operation. Could the gallstones cause a cancer? They are close together in the body.

Having gallstones can increase the risk of having cancer of the gallbladder but, even so, the probability of a person with gallstones going on to have cancer of the gallbladder still is less than 1 in 10,000.

So a link to pancreatic cancer would seem to be even less likely.

No........there is no conclusive evidence that gallstones are a factor in the development of pancreatic cancer.

From the website of Pancreatic Cancer UK:
"Some evidence suggests that people who have gallstones or have had their gall bladder removed (cholecystectomy) may have an increased risk of pancreatic cancer, although other studies have found no link"
