What's With This Brexit Anyway?

Every time I hear about it in the media, it's all doom and gloom and gonna be real bad for the UK. I've not heard anyone say it's a great deal yet. Oh, except the PM, Mrs Might. Has anyone backed it? I might have missed it if they have. Thing is, bad news always the headlines, doesn't it?

its only bad news because the PM says its good news, which it isn't if you get my drift. In fact i believe this deal is the worse one in all our history, and that is saying something. If MP's vote it down we can go for a no deal which is what many including me want.
Mark Carney is full of gloom but he is always like that and he wasn't right last time and i don;t think he will be right this time either.
the earth isn't going to stop spinning if we leave the EU with no deal, which is a best deal for the UK.

It's easy to criticies the package but I have not seen any alternative Brexit package suggestions that would win the support of MPs (who are mainly Remainers). Some of the suggested alternatives ( eg staying in the single market) have been ruled out by the EU. The only thing that would satisfy the House of Commons is to Remain- but that would be a real kick in the teeth to voters and we would be teh laughing stock of Europee if we said "sorry can we stay"

I think we would be in trouble if there was a no deal and we refuse d to pay any of the 'divorce fee'. Some of the money is obligations we are committed to like paying pensions and for things we continue to benefit from. The EU might seek redress through the International Court of Justice or the Permanent Court of Arbitration. Maybe they wouldn't so we'd save some money but the EU would want to deter others from doing the same. But more importantly would walking away from financial obligations be harmful to our reputation internaionally- would non EU countries admire us or would markets and economies not trust us in future?

The "Norway Option" supported by sensible Brexiters such as the Leave Alliance and Peter Hitchens would, in my opinion, be a significantly better alternative that would almost certainly get through parliament. Especially now that the Brexiteer ultras have confirmed their inability to oust May.

Only her cronies are saying it’s a good deal. And I would like to think they are just brown nosing and do actually realise it’s a diabolical deal.

All the doom and gloom is because the establishment are remain and are not looking to anything positive. All their dire predictions have, as far as I am aware, been slanted to come across as bad.

I do think pro leave should be stating their case a bit more. I would like to see counter propaganda.

But the problem with project fear is that it has lost credibility. And Brexiteers listening to project fear 345 ignore it becaue it has been proved wrong so many times.

If MPs are remainers and insist on trying to avoid exit rather than enact the will of the citizens then there's not going to be a deal that satisfies them. No point in trying. The gesture of goodwill paying an unjustified fee to leave, is inevitably tied to accepting a deal. The EU has clearly decided it's preferable to lose that and force either a no deal or to tie us into the EU powerless instead. Their choice. Their no deal.

May can be ousted after the House rejects the poor deal that she's tied her political career to. By then ever the most lily livered self serving MP must see what must be done. Even those reported by the media as turning against their country and considering backing the deal.

Thanks folks. It just seems a bit odd that the majority (well, a small one!) voted to leave and now that we're not far away, all the news seems to point to doom, gloom and chaos. Is it a case of vote for one thing, then do the opposite?

The "Norway Option" is a non-starter. Membership of the EEA requires freedom of movement.

Firstly we DO stay in the single market if we fail to negotiate a trade deal after we leave. That’s what the hooha about the backstop is about.
Second, no if there’s no deal we pay nothing to the EU of course because nothing would be agreed. Opinions differ of course on how much of that “saving” would be swallowed up by the economic cost in those circumstances.
