I have to pick someone up on A12 just off the junction 28 of M25 how far up the A12 will I have to go before I can turnaround and get back on M25 for Heathrow

It looks like a nine-mile round trip if you are going northbound on the A12, as the earliest opportunity to turn seems to be Junction 12 (Chelmsford Road/A1023 roundabout).

Southbound it's more like two miles or less, with an opportunity to turnaround available if you turn right following signs for Harold Hill.

If you're picking someone up from that junction, the meeting place that most people use is the Shell service station on the A1023. It's right next to the junction, with easy access (and a coffee machine!):
