I happen to like boxing, have done ever since we use to go and watch amateur matches at the local town hall. Yes people get hurt, yes you can die, but so do rugby, football players and plenty more besides.
the risks have been greatly eliminated in F1, as also in cricket and rugby, in various ways; administrators recognise that injury is an unfortunate by-product and try to prevent it happening. Boxing is still a sport where you're supposed to hurt your opponent. (Hence the suggestion for banning gloves: you'd be less keen to batter your opponent to death if you knew you were going to break your own knuckles doing it.)
