Been to Farnworth today to see brother. Daughter drove and we had three youngest grandchildren with us. The roadworks on the motorway was disgusting. Almost all the way up the M6 was roadworks. They are still boasting 408 people are working on the road. Not that we saw many and the few we did see didn't appear to be working. Not been back that way for years so we did the nostalgic bit and looked at old houses we lived in.
Felt quite weird really, but enjoyed the day, had a good lunch at a pub near where brother lives. Ate too much so not had anything tonight.
Rather than face the 'joys' of the M6, I'd have been tempted to go by train. The fuel costs today must have been around £50. It would have cost you a total of £124.50 return (for 2 adults and three kids) by rail from Gloucester as long as one of the adults held a Friends & Family Railcard and you booked in advance. (Even if 1 or 2 or the grandchildren were over 16 the fare would still be the same). So it would obviously cost more but it would probably be far less stressful!
Yep, the M5 and the M6 seems to have continuous roadworks that are taking forever to complete, a proper pain in the butt.
Anyhoo it was worth it though, Caran ( hope you waved to me at junc 10 M6 ).
Are they replacing the cobbles? When we were giving directions to those unfortunate enough to live further south than Stoke we used to tell them to turn off the M6 when they hit the cobbles.
