He is having an operation to remove one side of his nostril to remove cancer cells.
He will have a skin graft in 12 days time. They will take a graft from the crease in his face that runs along his cheek.
Why could they not take a graft from somewhere not so obvious.
The other thing that intrigues me, he has a beard, so will he have to shave his nose in the future?

Thank you all for the good wishes, he is being remarkably upbeat about the whole thing.
It's tough watching these things, and especially when the person who's suffering is a very close friend.

Hope it goes well for your OH, Caran.
I think the reason they are taking face skin is because skin from different parts of the body has different textures and appearances when grafted.
The resultant graft is likely to look far less obvious.
Taking skin from the crease means that the resulting scar won't show.
I don't know the answer about the hairs, though.
All the best to you both Caren xxx
Best wishes to Mr C x
For the life of me , i don't know why this is in CB, as it is obviously a medical question.
AB seems to be disintegrating and serious answers tend to bypass the section of CB.

Pyxis at 04.44 is quite correct.

He will need a skin graft as he most certainly has what is known as a Basal Cell Carcinoma (Rodent ulcer) and either due to a wide excision or the site of the lesion, the skin sutures would be under tension and hence the wound would fail to heal, in which case a skin graft is most appropriate.

I plead with AB again..... try and use the correct sections if the answers are to be meaningful and if expert advice from informed posters are to be maintained.
Possibly a little warmth and sympathy sought, Sqad.
No disrespect, but I suspect neither are abundant chez sqad .
Once the graft is established any hair growth can be safely treated with electrolysis. Hope all goes well.

oh my god Caran, he must look like Freddie Kruger !

skin isnt skin isnt skin - see pyxis
that is why trying a parfum you test on the inside of the arm ( vellous ) - interacts and smells different if put on hairy skin ( apparently - I am not a great ladies' parfum )

Wish him well and hope all goes ok.
