New Computer Screen....

Is it normal to have to install a new computer screen? I remember only connecting them before and getting on with using. I haven't done it yet but am hoping I will be able to connect and use....could this be the case even though it comes with a disc?

Have you looked at the contents of disc - it's a long time since I replaced my monitor and I seem to remember I just plugged it in and the CD contained the information for eg, changing the brightness/contrast/colour balance etc.

Once plugged in and connected "correctly" your pc should detect it and light it up. Do the instructions ask you to run the install disc before connecting or during? Important!

Monitors are usually 'plug and play' with modern versions of Windows. (Some old versions of Windows might require a driver to be installed, as might Macs or computers running Linux distros).

However it's possible that the native drivers built into Windows might not provide the very best performance that a monitor is capable of (particularly if the monitor only came onto the market recently), so then a driver installed from a disc (or, to ensure that you're using the very latest driver available, from an internet download) might be the best one to use.

Hi bhg...no I haven't as yet....I've got to get a new avg to avg lead first as my unit doesn't have an hdmi socket mores the pity as they supplied one with it...grrr.

I would say that if you're using windows 10. It should be plug and play. But if you're on an older machine, Then your PC might not have the up to date drivers for your new and more advanced monitor. So you'll have to use the driver on the CD to install the latest software for your new screen.

I have windows 8.1 with classic win 7 shell running so in fact only use that. Togo there's no real instructions more's the pity as in written ones...hopefully when I get it connect it will just work.....oh me of little faith!

At the risk of being called a pedant, I'll point out that it's 'VGA', not 'AVG' that you're looking for. I've got a drawer full of them!
