80's Australian sci-fi / horror

Hi people! some years ago, probably about 10/15 I saw an australian film on terrestrial tv that was about a bloke who woke up to find everyone had vanished. he met up with a young girl and another man. The reason for them being alone was because something had happened to the sun which meant that everyone vanished except for those who died just as the sun went 'funny'. anyone know what i'm talking about... i'm certain i'm not making it up!!?

Yes - I definitely remember it, and I have seen it on TV at least twice. It was a New Zealand film, not Australian. Unfortunately I can't remember the title, but hopefully there can't be many NZ films to search google for.

Sounds like Geoff Murphy's "The Quiet Earth". Director Geoff Murphy did some 2nd unit work on the LotR trilogy recently - he's featured in one of the TTT-EE special features. "The Quiet Earth" IMDb link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089869/
