What Does Someone Have To Do To Get The Maximum Sentence For Attempted Murder
This one's a head scratcher.
A bloke tortures a woman over a three day period, put her into a coma which lasts over a week and gets a minimum of seven year, even though the maximum sentence for attempted murder is life.

I've heard the argument that the judiciary are a bunch of liberals, which is why sentences are so short nowadays, but surely that can't be the only reason behind this (apparently) lenient sentence?

Anybody has the right to ask for a Crown Court sentence (for a relevant offence) to be reviewed if they believe that it's too lenient; they don't need to have any connection to the case:

For an 'Attempted Murder' charge the police have to be CERTAIN that the perpetrator really WAS intending to KILL the victim, rather than just injure them. That was not possible in this case. It looks like the perpetrator was trying to cause harm and suffering , but not actually murder them.
Remember that it is a MINIMUM sentence. That means the case can only start to be considered for possible parole after 7 years. In reality it will be a lot longer before they actually get out.
