It's an entertainment where a group is locked in and find their way out by solving puzzles.

It's a puzzle room Bill, where you have to solve puzzles and so on to escape from, it's a form of entertainment normally. Sadly five people accidentally died in a fire recently, and that's awful :(

that is so sad but I can't understand why they weren't let out .it's all on camera and if you fail to complete it in the given time the person in charge of your group lets you out as happened to us

Having done several I can assure you it’s perfectly safe and monitoring is happening at all times I therefore assume the deaths were tragic accident

You can assume the participants are monitored at all times, you can see the CCTV cameras in position. That doesn't mean that the CCTV operator will be there looking at the screens at all times.
Tragic accident maybe but I'm sure that negligence has played a part.

Our escape room had a button to get out - you just clicked it and the door opened.

our person was there all the time as you can speak to them so I agree the person in charge of those poor kids must have gone off somewhere

The chap was definitely watching us all the time, as he was on the walkytalky at lot confirming/giving hints.

with this one, it said five teenage girls were killed and a 25-year-old man seriously hurt in the blaze; he was perhaps the person in charge?

I saw this on the news earlier - really sad for five 15 year old girls to die at a birthday party :(

Escape rooms are normally safe - this just seems like a tragic accident.

I'm booked in to an escape room in 2 weeks time ......

it is not usually fire
but the fumes from the fire
and being Poland - I daresay old materials were used

[altho god knows - Grenfell, new materials were used]

we had an only boy who went into a room with an extinguisher to put out a cigarette fire
and never came out

I remember him as I got chucked out of the funeral ....
