Does anybody else remember when yogurt had an aitch in it?

I think the Americans prefer 'yogurt' and like so many other things, that version can take over.
Interestingly, the original Turkish word has an accent over the g, which is probably why we put an h into it... the accent must change the sound of the g slightly, and our inserted h must reflect that.
I've just checked with an online pronunciation in Turkish, and yes, the g is barely pronounced.
