Hi all
I have a recipe for apple crumble that states it needs "700 grams of apples, peeled, cored and roughly chopped". Is this weight the weight of the apples before peeling and coring or is it the weight after they've been peeled and cored?
I know it may seem a daft and simple question but I want to get it right!

I can't make out from Spathiphyllums answer if the 700g is before or after prepping. Dannyk's answer looks like the same statement on both lines to me with the words transposed. Also if the answer is in the question as TonyV says, why are you of different opinions on the matter?
700g of peeled and cored apples weighs around 400 to 450 grams. Given that the sugar that the apples are cooked in plus the sugar in the crumble are fixed amounts, I'd really like a portion of the crumble to have the sweetness intended by the recipe writer. Surely the weight of the apples would make a difference here?

I really think you are over thinking this a bit. As for the sugar bein a fixed amount...that is also flexible. Recipes are often guides, and erring a bit one way or the other will not make much difference. There's always variables like the size of the tin, etc.
If it were me doing it, I'd use 700g, already peeled and chopped. Too much is better than too little...you don't have to scrimp with a crumble!
