Very occasionally when someone calls me ( not personal calls) the phone doesn't ring but a message comes in. One example is my doctor when I have a phone appointment. She has to ring me on my mobile. Yet the receptionists can get through on the main switchboard.
Anyone know why this should happen? We have a BT phone and landline.
Is it possible that you have set your phone to block calls from withheld numbers?
My doctor's calls used to come up as number withheld on my phone (and it didn't ring) but they changed their system and it now indicated that is from the surgery and I know to ignore it :-)
You were extolling the virtues of BTs Call Protect Service yesterday; perhaps you have got a setting wrong. If you have it set to reject withheld numbers, that could be the problem, as many places with lots of employees (banks, doctors etc) have their own switchboard and calls from them have their number withheld automatically. It's one of the drawbacks of an automatic call rejection system.
