The Yanks led the victory from the west. The Russians from the east. It's a simple fact. Without the Americans, the Russians would have pushed all the way to the Channel. I am also proud of the British forces who fought in WW2. My dad was one of them.
The REAL Battle of Britain was the action against German U-Boats. If the Germans had continued sinking allied shipping at the rate it was, then we would have been absolutely on our knees, with little or no fuel to put into RAF aircraft. Many navy veterans will tell you this.

Not so long ago there was a fascinating documentary on TV about the Battle of the Atlantic and how it was eventually won. I think Enigma may have been involved re location of the wolf packs. Anybody remember it? Worth rewatching if it's available on catch up.

One of my possible fathers (yes, you are right) would have found himself running up the beach on D-Day - Juno to be precise. Don't know where the other possible fought.
