vhs to dvd

I have lots of vhs video's which I still highly value.
Obsviously, I have a vhs video player.
My question/s...are:
Can I !...and how do I connect my vhs video player to my computer to save and convert to dvd format!

Or do what I'm doing. I recently got a combined DVD recorder and video, which are quite cheap now (I paid less for this than I did a video once!) and using that, I'm putting my old tapes onto DVD.
