17dn -e-t-s up Having put up with contacts heading off to be introduced , becomes nervous

21 dn could it be -acity? -a-i-y ? Describing New York , talk up sandwiches I saw.

Thank you. For 17 dn I meant to type -e-s-s. My mistake. So tenses up will fit but what is the "heading off" it has me puzzled.

For 17 I also had "tenses up" but I parsed it as L(enses) / contacts,but this is really irrelevant because it could equally be "senses"
