I can't get WhatsApp to work on my laptop at the moment but tried on my phone with a video sent to me.
When I double-click on the video it opens and gives me an option (on my phone it's box with an upward arrow) then "Share" then I have options to share via various apps on my phone, including my email, FB messenger etc... and also options to copy and save it.

Just managed to get my laptop version to behave. I clicked on the video and it opened up in a new window. In the top right hand corner were some options including one with a down arrow to a straight line.
That is a download option and when I clicked on it it opened up a folder on my laptop where I could save it as a file. You could then send it as an attachment to an email or via FB message or something like that.
