Why Does This Happen...(Wifi Problems)

Been having problems with internet connection for a while (router box on and off at times) but changed micro filters last week so ok with that at the moment. However the other problem which happened occasionally was the wifi would go down and I was prompted to 'sign in' for connection on my iPad.

It's happened again for the last three mornings and when I look in settings my router is listed but not connected here. I just click on it (to join...hmm) and it then comes on...or connects. Can anyone tell me why this happens please? So far at least it connects touch wood....I'd just like to know what's going on with it though. Many thanks.

Don't know why it drops off, but usually a good idea to disconnect and reconnect wifi links occasionally. Is your iPad set to autoconnect to your router ?

OG I assume it is as I never had to 'join' before...so could it be that? If so....how would I switch back to always join? Sorry I can't remember how I would have done it...I will have to look in settings I guess. Mind you I think it happens on my OH's iPad too...
I'm unfamiliar with the iPad having never owned one; but would assume such a setting would be found in the iPad wifi settings as a tick box maybe, related to your wifi network name.

I've just had a look in settings and it states under the list of networks 'known networks will be joined automatically, if no known networks are available you will have to manually select a network'. So I don't know why it at times doesn't know mine....strange or what. Thanks anyway OG I will see how it goes on.

If that doesn't help it might be time for a new router. (I've had problems with dropped internet connections that have been solved by replacing the router)
do you have any other devices that use wifi, is it happening with them
ahve you tried your mobile phone on wifi, does it disconnect, i would try and narrow down whether its your ipad or your router, by trying other devices, have you asked your isp if they have noticed any drop outs on your connection with them.
