Whenever I try to play Chess Titans from games on Windows 7, on my refurbished laptop, I get the message 'Display driver stopped responding and has recovered'. This comes up about 3 times, and then the laptop freezes. After about a minute it comes up with an error page and reloads Windows.
When it reloads, I get a box saying something like 'click here to find a solution', but nothing happens.
May be worth reading through this Tubby. This will give you an idea of what you are looking at. I would read it all before taking action. Plus is it only happening when you try to load the chess programme?
Download driver easy it will specifically identify your graphics chip and offer the latest driver available. Check the minimum spec for that game, there is a chance your machine does not comply.
Morning bhg. I was also going to say that some of those chess games are fairly big resource users and that if other apps are running at the same time, including security programmes, it may be causing issues on a fairly old and possibly pretty well filled machine and that it may be worth trying to turn off some of the apps and seeing if it loads then. I think that the first link that I posted has a walk through for the control panel/device manager option. I would not be messing with the registry option unless you are pretty confident Tubby.
I've just tried going into Control Panel, entering 'device' in the search box, double clicking on Display adapters, right-clicking on the device it brought up, and clicked on Update driver software.
It appears to have worked, though for how long I don't know.
