Chambers Dictionary Prize

Some months ago I submitted a crossword for which the prize was the Chambers Dictionary. I was notified that I was the lucky winner. However the Dictionary never arrived. I wrote to the paper/magazine about this but did not receive a reply. Being somewhat ancient I cannot remember the date or the name of the newspaper/magazine carrying the crossword!
Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks

Thanks Neveracrossword. I used to do a crossword which was available online on Saturdays. It was not a cryptic crossword and was what I called the Google crossword because that's all one needed to answer it. Do you happen to know what I'm talking about and if so what the prize was?

Farrwest, I don't think your dictionary would be from the Spectator - I've just remembered that you don't get notified that you're a/the winner. The prize just gets delivered very quickly after the solution and the winners appear in the magazine. Wasn't the Listener giving Chambers as prizes at one point? The Times used to sent you a brief 'you're a winner' note, with the prize to follow.

Hello farrwest ...i think it was Polymath 993 that you won if you are DH from Ontario ( List of winners on FT website) so that was a long time ago... if you go on the FT crosswords page website there should be a contact email or similar..

Sorry, I'm confused now! I thought Farrwest was waiting for a Chambers and remembered winning a Brewer's in the FT Polymath.

Actually the prize for 993 was a Chambers dictionary... it changed to Brewers dictionary a few weeks later ....maybe they sent you Brewer instead?

My Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable is published by Chambers Harrap Publishers.

The Listener in The Times on Saturday usually gives The Chambers as a prize, but they ran out of copies so the current prize is Brewers.
I’m in the same position. Still waiting for my Chambers. A few months ago I saw somewhere that they’ll get more copies sometime after February (this year).If you don’t want to wait you can request a Brewers instead. Unfortunately, I can’t find this announcement now or the address to write to.

Anyone know how to find this announcement? I’m impatient too.

I emailed [email protected] for an alternative prize... a chap named Roger replied with a list of choices. His email was [email protected] and he gave the choices as:

Thank you Roslyn251254. I must be DH from Ontario as those are my initials and I do indeed live in currently very cold and icy Ontario. I'm glad my original post resulted in an interesting and informative discussion (even if I am no wiser than when I started!)

I had a similar problem having been notified I'd won the Polymath. I couldn't get a reply from the FT so contacted the publisher. It eventually turned out that they were out of dictionaries and a new print run wasn't due until April so they sent out Phrase and Fable instead.
