A tough one for schools is equal opportunities where a small minority of the schools pupils, or even class, may have disabilities that prevent them from being able to participate in certain activities. This can range from general learning difficulties to physical disabilities such as being confined to a wheelchair. Any situation where one child is different from the majority, issues of equal opportunities prevail. Should the child be integrated in to the schools ethos or should the school work at inclusion?
Inclusion requires planning and forward thinking for schools through the provision of facilities/support functions, whereby integration moulds the pupil to fit in.
