has anyone got any ideas?
where can a loner (ie me) go on holiday last minute in Sept and not feel too much of a loser. I do like my own company but haven't been on hols alone before and while I'll be happy enough sitting on beach or walking round museums on my jack I'm sure I'll feel a bit silly sitting in restaurants and things on my own.

This year went to Zambia and Botswana. Met loads of nice people in Zambia (place I stayed at was full of honeymooning couples), but went out on my own to join in group activities such as white water rafting and walking with lions. In Botswana, went on a week's horse riding safari, again met loads of nice people from different countries, and rode some fantastic horses. Later this year, will be travelling on my own to New York to do the marathon.
In short, just go and enjoy yourself! If you don't feel entirely comfortable in restaurants, take a book with you to read between courses.

Are you wanting UK, Europe or further afield teag1rl?
Incidentally, you always end up meeting LOADS of people when you're on your own, you'll never have a minute to yourself. And a tip for eating on your own, look up and around between mouthfuls, smile, and you won't feel so silly when you see people smiling back.

You don't say what age group you are in. I'm in my 40's and i've had many holidays alone. I like to go to the Greek islands. People are friendly. The waiters dont look at you as tho you are a freak with no friends!! Crete and Rhodes are my favourite island, i've been to both about 3 or 4 times. I tend to stay in Western Crete. And anywhere they put me in Rhodes. Pefkos was a little bit too quiet tho.
Both these destination will be ideal in September, still hot and sunny and the sea will be nice and warm.
Good luck wherever you end up...Have fun...

I have been many places on my own and on the whole had no problems but can sometimes but looked on as odd and in restaurants depends can be put in a corner as for hotels apart from the cost of single supplement best to pick a better class hotel worth it, you mention Germany of all the places I've been to in Europe found that the most unwelcoming in shops I once brought some apples and put them on the counter they weighed them I asked for a bag and they said had to pay for one so I did, but if you speak the lingo may be better off, I was on a coach trip and I didn't go on a tour one day and asked at the bar for some coffee and they questioned why I hadn't gone out and waited ages for coffee, (I now take a travel kettle a great idea for drinks in your room) Cologne was nice lots to see there, a very interesting place is Rouen been many times and some lovely hotels and a most interesting city. Good Luck, I will be off to Hong Kong and Melbourne soon a prize I won from a Sunday newspaper so will see what its like, If you really want a great adventure then New York is the place, been seven times and had No trouble on my own all very friendly.
