Ducks and drakes used to bust the dam.(8) I have seen several clues/possible answers given to this Q - such as skimmers, ricochet, bouncing, squadron and references to stones skimmed on water and bouncing bombs re Dambusters. No answer stands out, to me anyway, where I can say THAT'S IT. So help would be appreciated!

I would go with ricochet. Both skimming stones and the dam busting bombs bounced off the water.

Thanks dannyk. It's certainly the best so far but I also think that Skimmers could also be an answer as that connects with ducks and drakes. I'm a bit surprised that my comments haven't raised more discussion about this clue - certainly as regards to "bust the dam".
