MOT failure

I have 15 days left on my current MOT. I had my car tested today and it failed.
Is it legal for me to drive, will it invalidate my insurance if I do, does the failure invalidate my current MOT certificate?

Technically your car doesn't meet the legal minimum standard for road-worthiness.........but who's to know if you don't tell them?
I'm certain this happens a lot....in fact a high percentage of tests result in a "fail" but just make sure that you get it seen to in the 15 days you have left.

I always get my car MOTd 1 month early so if it fails I can drive it on the valid old MOT until I repair the fault.

Don't do this if it has failed for something dangerous though.

This could now be impossible with the new computorised MOTs though! I don't know enough about them, perhaps someone else could enlighten me?

your mot is valid until it runs out,whether its failed a new test or not. you are totally legal insurance wise,police wise until it expires.

an MOT is only valid at the time of test!! it is our responsibilty as the driver/owners of the cars to maintain the car to a roadworthy condition for the rest of the year ie reg serviced.the police would prob use this if u were pulled over for a stop check etc, issue a HORTE and u would have to get the defaults rectified and HORTE stamped at a MOT testing station!!

legally, you're still covered by your old MOT.
However, if the police pull you over and find parts of your car unroadworthy, you could be in trouble. This has nothing to do with the fact it's failed MOT now, this could happen day after it'd passed.

you could legally be prosecuted for knowingly driving a defective vehicle on the public highway. and if you are stopped by vosa inspectors they can tell that it has been moted and failed with the new computerised system as all info is send direct to there servers
