On the side of where? Or on the side because you want it to be a secret? Stick to your natural beauty, you will look a hole (sorry) whole lot better.

Cons .... It looks horrible (in my and quite a few other people's view but I realise not to everyone) It can lead to infection, it may be something you regret .....

Pros ... .can't think of a single one

I think it's a big mistake. My friend had one done a few years ago, and now the first thing you see when you look at her is the piercing. It's a real shame, as you don't notice her face any more.

It really takes away any chance of your face being noticed for it's natural beauty.

the back can scratch your teeth, it can get irritated when you eat, perhaps by certain spicy foods in particular, might get on your nerves wiggling etc
You will be judged to be of a certain type by people, fine if you are an artiste, not so good if you are bound by employers rules and regulations.
Sorry, but some people do not want to see piercings in their bank manager, gp or police officer, as examples.

It doesn't bother me but it can have it's drawbacks.

And when you get fed up of it, you will be left with a scar.
Well if you get fed up with it you can take it out. It's no big thing really. I use to have my lip pierced but took it out. There's not really any noticeable scar too. Who cares about what other people think anyway. If you want to get it done do it.

I agree with gloop - do it.

I had one, didn't last long because I would play with it while I was drunk and feared i would accidentally pry it from my lip one day! plus, i couldn't get a PT job over the summer. But if you are young and at school, why not? Its one of those once in a lifetime fashion statements. I would guess that all the respondents who are against piercings used to wear embarrassing bell-bottom jeans, had neon coloured tops, wore their hair feathered and walked on platform shoes with live goldfish in the heels!

"natural beauty"??? so no one uses hair straighteners, foundation make up or tans their skin?

Can't think of any pros apart if you feel it enhances your looks.

Cons, you tend to play with it all the time. It becomes a habit to bite it twiggle it around, fiddle, and when my boyfriend did this constantly, it drove me up the wall.

Cons my sister still has scar from hers.

hi aim1509, i had mine done but with a small stud and the stud worked its way into the hole and came out inside my mouth, it hasn't left any visible mark, but then saying that i know of people who have had it done and it has been fine. i think it looks nice, i have my tongue pierced now instead. there r always gonna b people who dislike piercings and also people who like them. go with what you want to do and don't b put off by other people.

Sorry metagirl but I can't help but disagree with your post 'if you are young and at school get it done'. I have seen so many nasty accidents from piercings on school kids due to boistrous behaviour or just playing sport. Also I feel it is too young whilst still at school to be considering extreme piercings.

heya people i value all your comments and advice ... just like 2 say, thanks for answering me politley:)
I have 3 lip piercings. I have had the center one for almost 9 years. The other 2 are about 4-5 years old. If they are done high enough they shouldn't bother your teeth or gums.
It does not look horrible!! What about people who wear make-up? Does this make you not notice a person's face? I do not wear make-up, but my lip piercings are there for the same reason... to attract attention to my face, to highlight one of my best features. I do not look like a freak.
I would gladly become a cop with a lip piercing, and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't stop me. And if they did, it would be wrong and what is called DISCRIMINATION, which shouldn't be happening in the first place. If people don't like it I say too bad. What is the big deal about a piece of jewelary? That's all it is!
