Abdominal exercises will only tone the muscles which you wont even be able to see behind the layer of fat that's there. It makes sense really doesn't it? So diet and do aerobic exercise first, then do the sit ups at the very end and to maintain.
Ok I am a personal trainer who is also trying to lose weight - after a busy time at uni I had no time to exercise as I was alwasy studying, I think I was the only student who didn't go out drinking. Anyway the best way to lose weight is this
Do 10mins exercise at 70% of your maximum heart rate.
Then do a ball squat with a shoulder press 3 sets of 20 reps
Do another 10 at 70%
Ball squat with bicep curls 3 set of 20
A final 10 mins at 70%
Ball squats with front raises 3 sets of 20
A tricep exercise and finish on abs
If you need anymore help on what any of this means leave a message.

Pilates. I had been doing aerobics twice a week for 2 years. I thought I had been working all the different muscles in the body until I did a 6 week course of pilates. It works on strengthening your inner core. You'll work muscles that you never knew you had. I have definitely noticed an improvement in the tone/shape of my body.
