I have just checked myself and my 2 children for these little critters after yet another outbreak at school. We are all clear but have itchy heads! Maybe it's psychosomatic, especially as most of the info on head lice seems to say there is not usually associated itching. Anybody know any different?
I think it is psychosomatic too. We often have outbreaks at my daughter's school although we have not had them for 3 years (touch wood); but everytime another mum tells me to check our heads because they have just found some on their children's heads, I start itching even though I can't find any!!!
no itching? are you kidding? I've got three daughters, now grown, and they always got lice at school, and I can tell you that yes, there is itching. and I caught it myself once, I remember now. lice is very common at schools here in the states. they used to check heads routinely, in primary, at least, maybe they still do. so, again, yes there is itching.
hiya worder - they used to check regularly for head lice in the UK - the "nit nurse", but they stopped the checks and there now seems to be repeated epidemics. I have now stopped itching, although since I started writing this I have been scratching a bit.......it MUST be psychosomatic. I'll give us all the once over again tonight, although curly headed 6 year old girls don't take too kindly to it!
I'm sure it's psychomatic: my little sister is forever getting them and I even the feel the little horrors running over my scalp! YUCKO! but when the comb comes out there are none!
There HAS to be a psychocablahblah element to it, 'cause I've read this thread three times now and scratched three times (and I get half way through itching when I realise what I'm doing and what I'm reading). Anyone else or am I alone, here?!
now we really DO have them - my daughter is scratching like a mad woman, and so am I - oh well, a nice night in with some chemicals and a fine tooth comb for us..........
