Can we take it safely? I'm 46 not menopausal but libido just gone. Should I see a doc or self medicate - worried I may buy the wrong thing/get awful side effects?

I am sure you can as I have heard it can help with libido, but I don't know what dosage. All drugs have side effects and you should take medical advice.
It could be hormonal, or you just don't fancy your partner. I'm the same age as you and am wondering what to do about it, too. Please say if you find a cure.
I don't think Viagra will help.
If you have a partner I think the best thing to do is just have sex even if you don't feel like it. The more you do it, the more you want it.

I'm not sure I agree Cloverjo - if it's not happening, I certainly don't want more of it! It's nothing to do with my partner and probably more to do with my age.
Cloverjo, I'm not sure that's very good advice... sex is surely something to be enjoyed by both 'parties'? Not endured?

Meg, go have a chat with your doctor. A change in hormones / medication / exercise etc could be the cause, among many other things! Nothing to worry about! :-)
How are you going to self medicate? Where will you get them?
It's not bad advice; one can get out of the habit of things and no longer feel in the mood, but if this is of concern then giving it a go can stimulate increased desire. "Endure" is a bit of a harsh a description for simply joining in willingly.

Ummm I was hoping you’d tell me! Or that someone here would! Anthro I don’t take any meds, I’ve been dieting for months lost 2 stone, but sensibly. I’m thinking its hormones though I don’t think I’m menopausal. I can’t think of anything that has brought it on, it’s just happened in the last few weeks. I thought of the doc, but getting an appointment is ridiculous, we’ve to ring them first then they establish whether or not you need to see a doc – firstly, I’m deaf so I don’t manage well on the phone then the nature of my issue is not one where I’d have someone ring for me! Plus they’ve misdiagnosed me twice in the past, and I ended up in hospital both times – they’d probably send me off with a prescription for antidepressants or something, they’re useless! I was just hoping someone here may have had similar issue.
Meg88, find another doctor. No point in having one you can't trust (on this or any subject) or can't even see. Have you googled sexual health clinics near you?
Viagra has no beneficial effect on female libido.
Blood tests will rule out a medical cause such as under-active thyroid.
Depression may well be high on the list of causes.

Loss of libido is common in woman and no obvious scientific cause is ever found.
Viagra might work for women - I don't know how reliable this survey is
