Restoring files from a HDD when the OS has expired....

Hi.

I got a new PC recently and my old one was using my dads copy of Windows XP which I restored every 30 days. Anyway, it's been a couple of weeks since I last checked and the XP has actually expired. I'm selling the old PC to my mums friend who wants Windows 98 installed on it.

Is there a way I can restore my files from my old PC before formatting? If I re-install a new OS, it'll wipe the whole PC clean before being usable....

Some help/advice a.s.a.p would be great coz Im supposed to be selling it tomorrow

Cheers

I recovered files in a similar situation using a Linux Live CD... you download the CD image, burn it and it runs linux without installing anything.

You can get it here...

Access the files as mattfox said, using knoppix or similar.

Note though that to give the PC with a copy of the OS that doesn't belong to the person buying it is illegal and microsoft may come and kick your ass.
