Any ideas on cleaning a cat which has coat smelling of poo. The cat is elderly and belongs to a neighbour who has now got a dog and appears to neglect the cat now. She's frightened of water so any suggestions please.
So would any act if trying to wash one, which is why it’s a notoriously hard chore. A wet room when washing a cat would be a dream for most owners. I guess which is crueler... washing the cat or leaving it to fester?
If it’s that much of a big deal then try wash it in the sink, but when it bolts and gets water all over the place then well.. i guess you will just have to mop it up
Ladybirder - I wasn`t saying that my scenario was abuse. I was saying that Spath's suggestion of locking the door wasn`t abuse but anyway ..It's unusual for a cat to smell of "poo". Most cats are very fastidious about grooming until they are at end of life which makes me wonder if the cat has old age kidney problems and their saliva (after grooming) is what is making the coat smell.
Yes I wondered exactly the same thing 237. It was kidneys that did for my previous cat at over 20 years old. Poor thing needs to see a vet really. Perhaps cp could speak to an animal charity about her.
Yes, the kidneys did for my Pusscat as well. I'll never forget the smell of her breath when her kidneys were failing and I have experienced that smell in humans as well.
