Why Are The Leaves Turning Brown?

I bought a beautiful fresh mint plant from the garden centre a couple of weeks ago. It did well for a weeks or so, but now the leaves are turning brown on the edges. I have be careful to keep watered and it is not in the sun. Any ideas ? I won't even bother telling you about my poor old Thyme. It seems herbs are very difficult to maintain.

Thanks TonyV, but no, it's not quite like that. Just the edges of some leaves turning brown. Nothing on the stems.

Join the club - I can never keep herbs alive :-(

because its in the shade and may be too wet! Mint, like many herbs likes it dry and sunny once established. Same with thyme.

Yes, perhaps too much water? I bought a cheap mint plant last year from Waitrose (the sort you're supposed to keep in the kitchen), put it in a large pot outside and it's large and very healthy now with hardly any extra watering. Same goes for sage, marjoram, thyme, chives, dill - all healthy with hardly any watering.

If grown under glass the plant has been forced & not hardened off for outdoor planting.

Ah that could be it Tambo. It's on our terrace and it has been quite windy lately. Dropped now, so let's see.

Mint, unlike most herbs, actually prefers shade!
