Hmmm, the daily dig and accusations at AOG of what he 'might' be thinking from the usual suspects. I think AOG has a point. Tensions are growing and we are preparing to put a military presence in the Gulf. Whilst I am sure many fleeing here simply want a better life it also could be a route for Iranian militia to enter the UK to cause disruption should it all kick off....

/// Don't most of them come for the same primary reason?
To seek a better life? ///
Well I am sure some of them would say that, you don't expect them to say "we are coming to commit terrorist attacks".
If they had all come to seek a better life, then surely some of them would not have carried out the attacks that we have witnessed in Europe and this country?

// Still not with you. Are you expecting a sudden and unprecedented influx of hostile Iranians?//
yes of course he does - it stands to reason
I mean dont they have the atom bomb ?
imagine the Daily Hate or Beast ( thx to evelyn waugh)
75 y after he invaded Normandy brave pensioner AOG is still fighting on the beaches, this time in Brghton ....braving storm force winds to repeal new invaders of all colours and creeds.
[I was gonna suggest a photo of an OAP giving a five y old a good clout over the head with his bucket and spade - wivda kid shouting ere mate I live in essex, not ethiopia]
but instead of an OAP in 2nd WW fatigues carrying a wooden rifle and singing - who do you think your kidding Mr Hitler if you think ole dingland's done .....
and of course wearing his 2nd WW bonce-berger ( army tin hat )

And surely, if they are simply fleeing a 'war torn country', which is not Iran, any of the countries they passed through are safe and where they should apply for Asylum.
And lets remember, it is always better to close the stable door before the horse bolts.

If the Iranian military want to send people over here to commit terrorist atrocities, would you think them more likely to -
equip them with identities and passports to allow them to enter and leave the UK freely and without trace
or
send them over a leaky boat when at best they may well be detained and deported, and at worst they may drown en route.
I don't think that's a hard one to work out - and maybe, on consideration, AOG may not think it is either.

/// Indeed, but your OP suggests tightening the borders due to the Iranian 'threat'. ///
/// Terrorism on UK soil has, on occasions, been caused by 'those few others' from other countries so we should have a continual high alert anyway. ///
Don't you agree then that we should tighten our borders even more than before, since it is banded about that we could be close to war with Iran.
Dismissing the fact that I have been accused of racism or even Homophobia if it comes to that, simply because these Iranian illegal immigrants (invaders) happen to be Muslim and possessing a darker skin. I would have shown equal concern if some of those in boats had happened to have come from Russia or any other aggressive anti British country.

It is a good job that we didn't have any of these modern day liberal snowflakes around during WW2.
They would have hung up the welcome signs to any German illegal, who crossed the English Channel.
No we were more careful in those days and we interned them on the Isle of Man, even though some happened to be Jewish refugees fleeing from Nazi Europe.
/// It tells the story of Elfrieda and Kurt Munzer, Jewish refugees brought to the island after fleeing Hitler's regime in Holland. ///
/// Their daughter said her parents had "bitter sweet memories" of that time. ///

Very harsh yes, but at the time being very cautious and for a good reason.

/// Tightening our borders doesn't prevent people taking to boats to cross the channel - and then when apprehended they're ferried in so what good is tightening our borders? ///
As you say at the moment we are rescuing them and then transporting them freely over our border, so I think it would prove to be 'a lot of good' if we tightened our borders, by not allowing them over them in the first place.

You do so love to remind us that you were around in the war, and how rough and tough everyone was then, and how modern people are 'liberal snowflakes' who wouldn't last five minutes blah blah blah …
I, and everyone else I am sure, am very grateful for the freedoms preserved by the wartime generation, but that doesn't give you carte blanche to sneer at everyone who came afterwards, and assume that they lack backbone or patriotism - it's not true.
Being one of that generation, and only one, doesn't give you bragging rights to scoff at others younger than you, and assume that everyone in your generation was wonderful all the time.
Give it a rest why don't you.

All that matters is how 'concerned' Mr Javid is on the matter.
It is true that there is growing tension but whether we are closer to war with Iran is a much greater leap.
