are thugs and criminals let free from the courts with virtually no punishment!!
I was watching a documentary series about attacks on police a week or two ago when a lout came up to a police officer out of the blue and punched him full in the face knocking him to the ground then jumped on top of him to continue the attack. His punishment... £400 fine. He was probably laughing all the way home! That policeman was left with PTSD and was off work for months. There are many similar instances of such attacks with similar outcomes. There many of these thugs out there that would be more than happy to pay £400 to punch and disable a policeman. Our judicial system is in chaos!!

you slash the number of policemen and crime increases. Then you get prisons so overcrowded that you can't squeeze more people in, and you hand them over to the private sector to make a profit out of them.

WE once had a magistrate who announced that anyone appearing before him charged with assaulting a policeman would get six months imprisonment and he stuck to his word.How times have changed.

Sentencing is inadequate as indicated by the story in the OP. Whether that's because the prisons are overcrowded or that the sentencing guidelines are inadequate or the people handing out the sentences are hopelessly out of touch I don't know.

Most likely a combination of all three, but clearly something is wrong.

Watching some of these police programs, Its just a joke how much time and effort is put in to catching these people, along with all the paper work, only for all charges to be dropped the next morning in court.

Police are expected to take any old carp these days and just grin and bear it, I've seen all the abuse they get on police TV programmes. Time they had more powers, or at least be able to fight back. Too much power for the thugs as per !!!

So they spend a night in a nice clean warm cell, and get up to tea or coffee, and breakfast served to them, with all charges dropped. ( Have a nice day, and I will catch you again tonight )

they have just convicted Lane and Letts - who sent the airfare £230 to get their awful son out of Syria - a sortta male Shameema begum - on terrorism charges

they said - like any parent we just wanted to get our son back
