my boss used to use the word frowzy occasionally to describe people who looked out-dated or not particularly well groomed. he used to be so surprised that none of us had heard of this word.has anyone else heard of it or use it themselves?

maybe your boss was the original frowzy professor Jenarry as the origin of the word is unknown. you'll have to ask him lol

To be honest I thought it came from the German - from Frau, wife.

An equivalent to our matronly or homely.

I use it, but it is a bit old-fashioned. So am I, which may explain this. Not a word young people use much.

unfortunately he's passed away now but still think of him from time to time cos he was quite a character. think of this word occasionally when i see someone that fits the definition of the word 'frowzy'.just wondered if anyone else actually used it.

Ive heard a lot of Jamaican people using this word.They use it to mean stale smelling and musty
