Is taking a life ever justified? If so, where is the line? When should a person’s life be considered forfeit?

Is taking a life ever justified(by the State) - yes
Where is the line? - For me it is multiple murder that is undeniable, so hearsay evidence or circumstantial dont count, neither do "confessions". With DNA, cctv etc thee days we can be very sure in some cases and those are the ones that qualify for the rope.

For others (murderers) it should be whole of life - no parole.

for mass murderers..yes and child rapists, expensive to keep them banged up for life, when that money could be better spent, i do not think anyone would miss them, only perhaps people who agreed with what they did.

I used to say NO but now I say YES.
Because human life is so infinitely precious, that to take a life must mean forfeiting your own life.

Yes. I don't care whether they have killed one or a hundred and one. Lethal injections should be given to all murderers. They forfeit their right to a life when they take that of another person.
Spare a thought for all those innocent children whose lives have been cruelly ended. Not to mention thousands of other people.
What do we do ? House the murderers, feed and clothe them,give them warm cells, re-habillitate them(try to)and then release some of them . The prisons are also filling up with geriatric murderers who are getting medical treatments for all kinds of age related illnesses. They probably won't have to go on an NHS waiting list.
Our jails must be full to overflowing these days with more and more evil ,murdering swines added every week.Get rid of them!!
The people suffering from a life sentence are the families of the victims.

Life is precious. If you are prepared to take others lives in a premeditated way, then you must be prepared to forfeit your own.

Capital punishment is an easy way out for a convicted murderer. Imagine a terrorist in his 20s who has been convicted for a mass murder. When the enormity of the fact that he could face 50 years or more in prison hits him he might be tempted to take his own life.

I personally doubt the actual ability of the gung-ho keyboard warriors who would queue up to 'pull the lever' or 'throw the switch' - I would imagine it's far from as simple to live with what you have done, than it is to live in an imagined moment, choc-full of self-righteousness and bravado.

As William Munny said in 'Unforgiven' - "It's a hell of a thing, killing a man …".

Thanks for that - as an atheist, I am a little sketchy on the finer points of words put in God's mouth by humans years ago.


But as I point out, is it not for God to dole out the justice, rather than Theland or others being somewhat high-handed in making the decisions for him?

Andy I assure you I’m no keyboard warrior. I also do not consider human life anymore precious than some of the higher developed animals. There are way too many of our species destroying the planet. Topping a few nasties would do everyone a favour, including the nasties.
Life is not precious, it’s simply a biological circumstance.
