No, but a friend of mine recently fancied some strawberry ice cream, so she mashed up some fresh strawberries and folded them into a tub of softened vanilla ice cream, then put it back in the freezer. She said it was absolutely delicious - could you maybe do the same with blueberries ?
Thanks for the replies. I`m trying to make it as a blueberry ripple ice cream and it's difficult to know how much sugar to put in to make the blueberry syrup as I don`t want the ice cream to be too sweet.
The sugar is to turn the fruit into syrup otherwise it will be too watery. I`ve just winged it and boiled up some but I`m not sure it`s thick enough. Will have to see how it is when it`s cool.
Thanks tony. They are actually whortleberries and I spent a blissful afternoon picking them on Exmoor the other day. Ten times better than anything you can buy in the shops and I don`t want to waste them. I might just chuck them in the ice cream maker if I can`t figure out how to make a ripple.
That sounds nice tony. Yes, there is something satisfying about foraging for things and turning them into something nice. My Mum used to make whortleberry pie and we had it with clotted cream - lovely.
I have. I went picking with a friend of mine who lived in Essex and got half a bucketful. When I got home I was too tired to do anything with them so I left them until the next day and there were quite a few maggots that had surfaced. I remember when I picked them as a child, I sometimes saw a little curled up maggot where the stem meets the fruit.
