Radar Warning Device
I have just purchased a new Nisan Qashqai connects. My previous one had this warning system. I have been told by the dealer that this facility is no longer available as the French objected to it. I don’t know why. Has anyone had any experience of this?

Don't know about the rest of Europe. We don't even use a satnav as it's more fun if you get lost. You discover some lovely places off the beaten track
It's a serious offence to have a radar detector in your car in France. You can be fined up to €1500 and/or have the device confiscated and/or have the vehicle itself confiscated.
It makes perfect sense to me. Allowing radar detectors in cars is akin to ruling that all undercover coppers must display blue flashing lights on their heads. If you're committing a criminal offence you ought to be caught and prosecuted for it and any device which prevents that happening needs to be banned.

C’est vrai. The land of kermits have made them illegal and I guess that the eussr countries will no longer supply that warning device in their cars. My top of range Skoda superb included. :-( I use Tom Tom in any case to give me alerts.
Unlike some ABers I am not infallible when speeding is concerned. :-)

I did say the Devil's Advocate had arrived, 'Chico! Just trying to promote a bit of controversy!
As it happens I agree 100% with you. These devices seek to allow (or even encourage) drivers to speed with impunity, safe in the knowledge that they will be adequately warned of a detection device ahead.
When you look at forums that deal with road traffic law you will find countless drivers who have been detected speeding begin their tale with "I didn't see the camera until it was too late" or similar. It doesn't seem to occur to them that speed limits apply elsewhere other than in the vicinity of speed cameras.
