Gas Fire Fake Coals.

Some of the loose fake coals in my gas fire have become damaged. They are very light and the inside is white fibrous stuff. The difference between getting the manufacturers own replacements and generic ones is huge...90 quid and 15 quid! Will it be ok to buy the generic ones or should I stick to the manufacturer's? The fre is well out of warranty.

When my daughter sold her house with fake gas fire, the coals were placed in a random way and no surveyor ever queried the coals - all they were interested in was the gas safety certificate and evidence of servicing. She also actually used the gas fire with the random arrangement of coals with no problems at all.

Two alternatives: A monitor with a recording of flaming something (coal, wood, gas, peat, dung,.....), the other a picture/poster. Fake is fake, why agonise over it - but better than the real thing, I grant you.

Was simply my view that if they were being sold legally then they must be fit/safe for purpose.
