Muslims who refuse to handle pork, serve booze and now...
Where do people stand on this story?
I would especially like to hear from those who get angry at Muslims who refuse certain job tasks due to their religion.
Does this story make you feel equally angry, or do you feel that Relate could've done more to accommodate this worker:

Ah, the logical soundings of the intellectual amonst us...
I would also like to know which NHS doctors refuse to carry out abortions on the grounds of religion? I mean presumably they wouldn't be working in that field if it was a major belief or are we referring to GPs not referring women on?

I think there is a more profound answer to this question. It is not a question of muslim versus christian, it is a question of why should religious beliefs have to be considered by an employer.
There are things that I passionately believe in but I wouldn't expect special treatment from my employer because of them.
If I worked in a supermarket and I was a vegetarian (which I'm not) should I expect to be exempted from stacking the meat shelves.
If I was a recovering alcoholic should I be exempted from stacking the alcohol shelves.
I think any right thinking person would answer 'no' to the above two questions. So would I.
Religion is a personal thing. It is what you personally believe in but why should an employer have to pander to your whims or beliefs if it means you can't or won't do the job as good as someone without those beliefs.
I personally think that too much emphasis is placed on religion within the workplace. By all means have your beliefs, but don't expect special treatment at work because of them.

sgt .rock - Nothing to do with me personally. But one thing is clear that if there is not a question here for more than a week to do with Islam or Muslims then AB could go into liquidation.
Few Muslims sell alcohol and few drink too. That is true. But majority of Muslims do not. If we talk about allowed or disallowed then it is not allowed. And it is true that few care about their profit. But majority do not. I can take you to more restaurants of Muslims where they do not serve alcohol than the ones who do, and their business is OK.

16:14 If Allah is the all powerful God we are told he is you would really think he would have all his followers on the same level.
Yes you are right to say that, but just think if that happens then who would refuse to accept God. Human have free will and have been told what is right and what is wrong. Now what they chose is their choice for a limited period. So enjoy when you can.

Sorry Keyplus I don't agree that the majority of Muslims do not sell alcohol. I have not been in a shop run by an Asian (Muslim?) that does not sell alcohol.
There is a huge contadiction with their beliefs.
If humans have free will, why are things such as dogs, pork, alcohol and stringed instruments taboo in the Muslim religion?

Sunday is the designated day of rest for Christians. I know loads who ignore that and get on with their jobs.
Not all of them though.
Jonathan Edwards refused to compete on Sundays for several years. Kaka and Jermaine Defoe aren't so fussed. Pretty sure they were all Christians though.

I think sgt.rock can only differentiate enough between Muslims and Sikhs as few people did in USA after 9/11 and killed few Sikhs believing they were Muslims.
However I think sgt is talking about Off Licence business. But still I would say that majority of Off Licences are not owned by Muslims and still after that I am not saying that Muslims arent selling alcohol at all. I did say that yes few Muslims have this temp life more important than hereafter. That does not mean they are right.
You talked about free will and pork, dogs etc. So these are two different things.
First one is the permission or choice and yes in that regard Islam does not allow pork, then comes the free will. And you are free to chose if you accept this ruling or not. Compare it with law about cigarette. On the box it says that it is injurious to health and that is ruling or warning, but people are free to buy if they want to. But if they end up with cancer then they can not blame that no one warned them. Same is the case with pork etc, that you consume if you want to but at the end you will have to be answerable.
But in the end simplest scenario is that if you do not believe in God, and his rules then why are you worried about his punishment, for you nothing exists.
