1) "In which mercury's rising - I see it's fantastic outside" (8) E?G?T?E? I think it has to be EIGHTIES, which suits the definition part re high temperature, but I can't parse the rest of it.
2) "Coward's fan of the Sun, on reflection blessed!" (6) ?O?D?M I'm embarrassed to say the only word I can think of is CONDOM, but cannot see any connection with the clue at all.
