Validity of a Bulgarian marriage

I have a friend who is questioning the validity of his Bulgarian marriage.

Things have gone wrong and he wants to protect himself financially.

There is a child involved which was born here and they have lived here since the marriage. They wife (Bulgarian) has been on a visa since arriving here.

Just because he was married in Bulgaria doesnt make it invalid!

If the marriage was valid under Bulgarian law (he could check this with the Bulgarian embassy) and both parties were free to marry under the law of the country in which they were domiciled at the time, then it is valid in UK.
