"Manchester - the City of Trees". For someone who was born and raised in Ancoats, it made me laugh my head off. Bless 'em!

Both sides handled the situation badly. Some of the protesters were travelling the city like vigilantes, and the power went to their heads.
When I first moved to this house there was a beautiful silver birch growing in the grass verge in front of my house. My neighbours were concerned that its branches touching the roof of thir house and thought that it might dislodge some tiles in a strong wind. They pointed out to me that there was a similar risk to my own property and asked me to co-sign a letter to the council, simply requesting that they cut it back a bit.

The next thing we knew was when workmen arrived and cut it down completely. My neighbours hadn't wanted that to happen and I most definitely hadn't either but I still got sworn at by several passers-by who blamed me for its loss!

Much cheaper to cut it down, Chris. Arborial work of the type required would have probably cost a fortune.
