thank you lie in king and dannyk, i was not aware that ho signified stop. i have heard of westward ho, (read the book when i was a lot younger) and of course i know the phrase land ho but i was unaware that it meant westward stop or land stop? it makes more sense as WHOA but i presume this suggests an abbreviated whoa. thank you both but i think it is a pretty poor clue not up to the usual telegraph standard. thanks again for taking the time to explain
