Ilyrian pirates drew them into Dalmatia(former Yugoslavian area) before 240BCE, but true conflict with Greek city states started in the gap between the Puncic Wars and beyond, during the wars know as the "Macedonian Wars", when Rome's mandate went from protector of, to ruler of Greece by 146BC. The greeks were too troublesome to be left alone and in the same year as the Third Punic/Carthaginian war and the sack of Carthage, Corinth was also sacked and Greece formally contituted as a roman province from 146BC
