If you married an English person you need to search the Central Registry (Family Division) in London to see if your partner has already filed for divorce. If you can find no record and can show you have made all reasonable attempts to trace the other party you can petition for divorce in the normal way and ask for service to be dispensed with. However you can only do this after being married for five years! The only way you can possibly get a divorce within five years is if you trace the other party who agrees to it.
Other options for getting advice are: Citizens Advice Bureau or, employing a solicitor (you may get half an hours free advice but this probably depends where you live). Otherwiseyou will have to wait another three years.
