I'm taking my parents to Cork on 01Sep for 3 nights, we are staying in Cork for the first night. We have hired cars for our duration and are hoping to spend 2 nights elsewhere. i would be grateful for any tips as to any towns or villages to visit and stay at. We are looking for somewhere traditional, good old live irish music on the nightime in traditional pubs and somewhere picturesque to walk around during the day.

you could visit the Power's distillery in Midleton, visit the Queenstown Story in Cobh (last embarkation point of the Titanic), you could go to Blarney Castle..... and all without going too far from Cork itself.

Really, you'll be spoilt for choice I'm sure.

Kinsale, which is only a few miles from Cork, is the "Gourmet Capital of Ireland". Several excellent restaurants, some good pubs and places to stay. For more information, the tourist info website is

I'd also go along with the recommendation for Cobh
