I was just reading all about Slimming World and can't believe how it contradicts what we are told about food these days. It seems to allow unlimited amount of carbs (pasta, rice, potatoes, noodles etc) and encourages sweeteners and diet food; discourages fats and oils. It lists processed foods that everyone can buy as treats every day. Baked beans and pulses are 'free'- unlimited, even though high in sugar and carbs. On the other hand, the nation is diabetic which is caused by too many carbs and added sugar in foods, and we know that artificial sweeteners are dangerous. Yet I have seen several friends lose weight relatively easily on SW. I'm confused! Is the recent obsession with keto better than SW?

Sweeteners are very unhealthy, although possibly better than sugar, if you are both diabetic- and your blood sugar is currently high.
A small amount of everything, which corresponds with your activity is best.
I have a physically active job and lifestyle, and still only need two meals if that per day. I think people get hung up on needing three... whether they actually do or not xx

jennyjoan https:/ /www.di abetes. co.uk a useful website. I cut out all starchy veg, so no root veg just lots of above ground leafy stuff. No pasta or rice, nothing flour based. Fortunately I don't have a sweet tooth so cutting out sugary things wasn't a problem for me. I eat plenty of protein, lots of meat and fish, eggs and cheeses. Good luck with your diagnosis.

Jennyjoan - in answer to your question, if you are borderline type 2 then you need to stop eating sugar and carbs. So avoid anything sweet, bread, potatoes, rice and pasta. Get MyFitnessPal on your phone and type everything in that you eat. Aim to have no more than 50g carbs a day. You can eat veg (but not starchy ones like sweet potatoes and other roots), eggs, cheese, dairy, nuts (but careful as they are very high calorie), and protein- most meat, fish etc. Get in the habit of looking at packets and noting the carb amount. There are tons of websites out there- look up Keto diet/ paleo diet. With no sugar coming into your system, you basically burn fat instead so it is good for fast weight loss. Make sure you eat enough protein. See, I know this works. I did it for 3 months, lost 2 stone (didn't count calories) and my sugar levels went back to normal. But I didn't like the food (I am intolerant to dairy and eggs which cut out a lot of stuff) and it shocked my body into stopping my periods and losing hair. My sister did it successfully with no side effects and lost a ton of weight. BUT she has had to stick with it permanently for it to keep working. This is why I wonder about how healthy SW actually is... seems very high in sugar which is not helping the nation who are borderline diabetic.
