LCD Vs Plasma screen TV

I cashed in an old policy and am going to treat the family to a new TV. Definately going for a slimline model, but which type? Plasma or LCD? It will be a 32" but which is the better type?
Advice will be much appreciated

Its down to preferences but LCD for me.Plamsa has a 'life' expectancy of 10,000 hrs which you may want to take into account.Sounds like a lot but when you work it out it can be as low as 2 yrs depending on your viewing habits.

If you can find an LCD you're happy with, go for LCD. Longer life, cheaper to run, lighter, cooler.

I would certainly recommend viewing in a shop before buying. Maybe take in a couple of your own DVDs and get the shop to play them.
My dad bought a 32inch LCD TV and the picture is awful.
He could have got a 32inch CRT with a vastly superior picture for half the price.

Do a free 5 year Wanetee, also they do a price match, but only in there shops and against other shops (not the internet), the item must be in stock in both places to save money. John Lewis can be awqward about the Price Promise, depends who you talk to and how they feel on the day, but it is usually worth perusing.

LCD is a liquid and plasma is gas( very simplified)s. You are unlikely to find a Plasma of less than 37".
However I set out to buy a 37" LCD and ended up buying a 37" Plasma. In terms of viewing LCDs have distortion of picture from the sides whereas Plasmas generally give a much brighter picture . They are, in theory though, subject to burn areas. As generalisation for picures of 37" and under - go for LCD and for above that go for Plasma. Hope this helps. What really persuaded me in the end was the 5 year warranty I got and as Stevie has suggested John Lewis do seem to offering a good deal.
