Possibly an extra letter in wordplay -
36a Not many against occasionally eventless books (6) (6) NO?E?S novels?

Help also with the top and bottom lines to be filled in... i am missing some of the 21 extra letters and the ones i have look jumbled!

Four names go into the top and bottom entries - there are extra letters around three of the names. The extra letters are given in the message (they're the final letters, with commas between each of them).

...for 36a the clue reads 'Not any' (= 'NO') with the 'm' extra.
