Over the past 3 nights i have watched the 8 episodes of series 3 of Top Boy, having first watched the last episode of series 2 just to refresh my memory. (Well, it was 6 years ago since that particular episode was aired.) It began rather slowly but I have to say that, once i got into episode 3, the story moved on apace and was every bit as good as i remembered it to be. Well worth catching up on Dushane, Sully and the rest.
I also recall the first 2 series came in for criticism from some quarters for stereotyping the black community and 'glamourising' the world of heavy drug dealing. In my opinion, this series does not do that. Instead it shows the downside; the effect on families, the loneliness, the paranoia, the fear and the violence. A very good watch - if you're not of a nervous disposition.
Never know, M, the BEEB may do with Top Boy as they did with Ripper Street back in the day. The first 2 series were on BBC then the 3rd was broadcast on amazon and later aired on the BEEB. Fingers crossed.
